In September 2019 at the beginning of the project Dr Richard Glover headed to Zurich to interview Marcus Maeder and Roman Zweifel about their work Treelab that was a STARTS Prize honoury mention in 2007.
The goal of this artistic-scientificc research project was to connect sounds that occur in trees with ecophysiological process and investigate and render processes in plants that are not noticeable to humans. The acoustic emissions of a tree were recorded with special acoustic sensors, and translated into sounds and music. The recordings and sonied measurements were simple- mented in a number of different media art installations under the preamble “treelab“,which at the same time served as a research environment, in order to display and examine the tempora land spatial connections between plant sounds.
